(Vienna, VA – January 14, 2026) The Sequoia Project, a non-profit, 501c3, public-private collaborative chartered to advance implementation of secure, interoperable nationwide health information exchange, is pleased to announce the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors.

The Sequoia Project welcomes Zach Gillen of Kaiser Permanente, Lauren Riplinger of American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), and AJ Peterson of Netsmart to its board. Each brings deep expertise and leadership experience that will help advance the organization’s mission to pioneer processes and policies that enable health information exchange to work on a national level.

The Sequoia Project has over 100 member organizations, spanning healthcare providers, payers, platforms, and federal agencies. The expanded board brings fresh perspectives and strategic guidance to The Sequoia Project’s work on the nation’s most pressing interoperability challenges.

Best known as the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy’s (ASTP’s) the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement™ (TEFCA™) Recognized Coordinating Entity® (RCE®), The Sequoia Project is also the home of Interoperability Matters, a cooperative bringing together industry and government to identify and solve discrete barriers to exchange with actionable insights published for public use. The Sequoia Project, with AHIMA, is leading the Data Usability Taking Root Movement, a cross-industry community of practice to support and implement data usability guidance for improved clinical data. Members of the non-profit convene regularly for workgroups, the Government Affairs Forum, annual meetings, and other education and networking events.
