Description

Epic alleges Health Gorilla, a health information network, of enabling illegal access to nearly 300,000 patient records for commercial, rather than treatment, purposes. Epic accused Health Gorilla customers of misrepresenting themselves to acquire and monetize data. Epic and co-plaintiffs claim defendants operated as an organized syndicate, took records under the guise of treatment but instead marketed them to personal injury lawyers for mass tort/class action claims, and obscured their true purpose through fictitious websites, shell companies and NPI numbers. Epic also claims that defendants inserted junk data into records to cover their tracks.
