THE SEQUOIA PROJECT

Real-World
Initiatives

The Sequoia Project is a national convener of private sector and government stakeholders solving health IT interoperability challenges. We focus on real world, pragmatic solutions; and we need active engagement of all stakeholders to make progress. This is a sampling of activities our members may participate in.

Interoperability Matters

Members are vital contributors to our Interoperability Matters Cooperative as we identify and resolve the remaining challenges to seamless, secure health information exchange. Members help prioritize the most pressing issues, such as: information sharing, patient matching, and other discrete problems.

Improving Patient Matching

The Sequoia Project facilitated consensus among members and the implementation community to develop and update a uniform set of patient matching rules and a maturity model to improve patient matching.

Improving Interoperability of C-CDA and Content Testing

The Sequoia Project brought together members, clinician users and subject matter experts to identify how to improve the consistency and value of the data transmitted in C-CDAs.

Information Sharing Guidance

Led by the Interoperability Matters Information Sharing Workgroup since 2019, The Sequoia Project is expanding a community of practice around the ONC/CMS Information Blocking and Interoperability Final rules. Most recently, the Workgroup developed a suite of resources to support compliance with the information blocking rules.
