HHS / Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) and Acting Administrator for U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Amy Gleason will present on the CMS Digital Health Ecosystem strategy. This bold new vision includes a call to action for health information networks, app developers, vendors, providers and innovators to share information to empower people and improve care. Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy and National Coordinator for Health Information Technology Dr. Tom Keane will discuss U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s directive to increase resources dedicated to curbing the harmful practice of information blocking and increased enforcement against health care entities that block the access, exchange, and use of electronic health information by patients and others that have a legal right to the data. After opening remarks, they will join The Sequoia Project CEO Mariann Yeager for a lively fireside chat.
Over the last 20 years, policymakers have continued to advance the right of patients to access their health data. In reality, patients face a fragmented ecosystem and administrative hurdles to exercise this right. A spirited panel of patient advocates, health IT developers, and other health information sharing experts will discuss how close we are to the visions of TEFCA’s individual access services and CMS’s patient empowerment. They’ll focus on the best practices needed to close the gap.
TEFCA Governing Council Chair and Vice Chair will present on how TEFCA is doing Trust differently. Hear more about lessons learned from the nearly two years of TEFCA Exchange, and strategies for 2026.
CMS emphasized the importance of improving the sharing of health information by payers with patients, health providers, and across payers in rulemaking (CMS-0057). Impacted payers are ramping up to participate in trusted exchange to meet application programming interface (API) requirements in January 2027. This panel will highlight common roadblocks and offer practical strategies to transition from fragmented approaches to a governed, scalable approach that meets regulatory requirements based on a foundation of trust.
The new Pharmacy Workgroup has built a nationwide community of practice that is working together to address pharmacists’ evolving clinical information exchange needs. This panel will share examples of innovative, pharmacy-based patient care models, discuss gaps in pharmacy interoperability readiness and adoption, and explore solutions for care team integration. Sponsored by Surescripts, NACDS, APhA Foundation, and NCPA Foundation.
We’ll highlight this year’s advances in healthcare IT interoperability for the public good across The Sequoia Project, Carequality, and TEFCA.
